PINHEY SAND DUNES

Dunes 2

In 2012 Biodiversity Conservancy International in collaboration with the National Capital Commission (NCC) took on the restoration and reclamation parts of of the National Capital sand dunes system (NCSDS), of which the well-defined and most rugged area as seen in an aerial photo taken in 1925 cover an area of approximately 4 square kilometers.  Due to housing development and reforestation in the 1950s the NCSDS quickly diminished in size. As of 2010, the NCSDS was on the brink of total destruction   Thanks to the restoration effort, as of 2024, four sections of the system about 0.1% of the original dunes system have been reclaimed and are known as the Pinhey Sand Dunes.
