This free dune tour organized by University of Ottawa students in conjunction with Biodiversity Conservancy International provides to the public (all ages) to promote conservation of one of the rarest habitats in Canada,. It is:the sand dune habitat, the habitat that is often mistaken as a lifeless wasteland. The Pinhey Sand Dunes (PSD) located in the heart of Ward 9 in Canada’s Capital, recently restored from planted red pine forests, have quickly gained their popularity even though they are fairly hidden by surrounding forests. Tour participants will learn the rare and unique dune habitat, biodiversity, ecosystem, and the geological history of these sand dunes. The 8 thousand year old sand dune landscape recently uncovered has been recognized as a geo-heritage site in the National Capital Region by the Ottawa – Gatineau Geoheritage Organization .

NOTE:In case it rains or maybe it will rain on August 26, please call to confirm whether the event will be on or canceled.
